Inaba: Wedding plans take back seat to cats

Cats are so cool that they are hot again.

NBC's The Voice judge Cee Lo Green's cat, Purrfect, is so popular that she has a Facebook page and Twitter account with fans following her updates.

But before novices start jumping on the bandwagon, ABC's Dancing With the Stars judge and cat lover Carrie Ann Inaba emphasizes that adopting one is a full-time commitment.

As independent as they are, they also need their owners for food and medical attention. Inaba says she and fiance Jesse Sloan have not yet planned their wedding in part because someone has to be home in the Los Angeles area to tend to their six cats, ranging in age from 7 months to 17 years.

"We wanted to get married in Hawaii, but we were really torn because we don't want to leave our cats," one of whom has a kidney problem, Inaba says. "We handfeed him water 3-5 times a day, and it has to either be myself or Jesse." She admits that for the most part, they do not go away on vacations together. "It's true. We don't travel together."

Inaba then issues a reminder: "Cats are in right now but I want to put a message out there: Don't get a cat just on a whim. It's a forever relationship and once you commit, you need to stay with them forever. You need to be with them forever."

Inaba is producing a Web series on shelter cats called Crib Cat, and it starts airing later this month on Petsami.com.
